Going-to-the-Sun Road, a scenic mountain road through the Rocky Mountains in the west United States, is located in Glacier National Park, Montana. The Sun Road, or as it is often abbreviated in National Park Service documentation, traverses the park. It crosses the Continental Divide through Logan Pass at 6,646 feet. This is the highest point of the road. Construction began in 1921, and was completed by 1932. The road was officially dedicated the following summer, July 15, 1933. This road was the first to be registered in all three categories: National Historic Place and National Historic Landmark. It is approximately 50 miles in length and runs the entire width of the park, from the east and west entrance stations. The National Historic Landmark Nomination measures 48.7 miles from the intersection at the park’s west entry to Divide Creek in St. Mary, on the east side.
